Making at MIT

In a makersystem, local makerspaces network together to offer specialized capabilities to a larger community.

For Students

We are working hard to make sure MIT students have access to the tools, spaces and information they need to make, create and innovate.

Mobius

Mobius connects students, faculty and researchers with nearby resources they can use to make, measure and innovate.

why-join

Makerspaces provide students with the tools, technology, and other resources they need to design, create, and innovate.

These collaborative environments, including machine shops, project spaces, and community spaces are essential to grow and support the entrepreneurial maker culture at your university.

The Make Impact Consortium helps schools determine what makerspaces they need, how to create and implement them, and how to assess the impact on the student experience.

We help schools:

  • Design and equip effective, attractive makerspaces and complementary facilities.
  • Define and measure the success of makerspaces.
  • Set up safety protocols that do not constrain access.
  • Coordinate makerspaces with design, innovation, and entrepreneurship resources.
  • Navigate fundraising, staffing, and resource needs.
  • Foster robust maker ecosystems on and around your campus by incorporating the resources and partnerships you need to support students, alumni, and community members as they develop ideas, moving them from prototypes, to start-ups.
