Making at MIT

In a makersystem, local makerspaces network together to offer specialized capabilities to a larger community.

For Students

We are working hard to make sure MIT students have access to the tools, spaces and information they need to make, create and innovate.

Mobius

Mobius connects students, faculty and researchers with nearby resources they can use to make, measure and innovate.

Web Portal

The Mobius system was created to help manage and share information about resources that the MIT community may use to make, measure, and manipulate.

MIT students, faculty, staff, and community members with MIT Touchstone accounts can use the Mobius web portal to locate all of the equipment, makerspaces, and facilities in the Mobius database, check the status of equipment, and pay for materials and machine time. Facility managers can use the web portal to modify information pertaining to their facility, policies, equipment, and users.

Visit the Mobius Web Portal

The Mobius web portal is available to all members of MIT’s community. Its features and capabilities are constantly evolving, and it currently provides users the ability to:

  • Discover machines and makerspaces
  • Search the database of machines at MIT and around the world based on:
    - Materials you need to work with
    - Machine type
    - Machine capabilities
  • Access via a mobile friendly site
  • Get Machine and Shop Details including location, status and contact information
